Good Afternoon Pipers. While Airborne a couple of weeks ago, my alternator breaker popped mid-flight. I tried resetting it, and it immediately popped again. I returned to the field, and began investigating. I discovered that the field wire in the back of the alternator had worked itself down onto the exhaust pipe, which melted through the insulation, and grounded the wire on the pipes. I figured that was the obvious problem, I fixed the wire, but my charging system is not working. The breaker is no longer tripping, but the Zefronics Regulator has the red light on, signifying a bad field ground. Any ideas on what I should check? It could be my splicing of the original field wires it's a butt connector, any other ideas?
