Tach Cable Length

I'm having a problem with my tachometer not showing accurate data. My A&P thinks it may be the tach cable and he wants me to replace the cable, but I can't find the length. Piper has a cable for about $250; Aircraft Spruce sells similar cables for about $50 though they don't know the length either. I'd like to find the length if possible so that I can comparison shop.
