At Airventure I usually swing by the Piper display & dream about a new Archer. The rep was talking to another guy & he mentioned the useful load of the new Archer III at 870 lbs. I didn't check on a spec sheet or the website, but it seems a little low to me?

Years back I did rent a Cherokee 180 fairly often, don't remember the exact weight. Is the Archer a heavier plane? I know the 0-360 has 30 lbs extra or so. My 160 HP Warrior has a listed UL of 891 lbs. I guess the lower number could be there to abide by airframe limits & provide better performance. I always leave some margin with my weight, but have been fairly close.

I'm sure a new Archer could still fly circles around my performance, just thought they had higher numbers.
