Just installed a new/OH engine, all new baffling and a new set of oil coolers on a PA32R Lance. Prior to this, the owner was seeing 175-180 temps on the oil temp gauge during normal 75% cruise operation. Since new/OH engine, new baffling and new coolers we now see nothing higher than 160 on the gauge. Running the engine per Penn-Yan 'first run' instructions, full rich and 75% or more power for minimum of 1 hour flights, first 10 hrs of run time.

First couple of flights it was pretty 'chilly' here in central FL, but since then its warmed up to normal outside temps, and after 4hrs of run time (again full rich) owner is still seeing low oil temps (below 160) during flight, slightly higher on the ground during taxi back.

I'm thinking the combination of full rich during break-in flights and the new oil coolers and the nice tight baffles are giving much better cooling than the old setup leaned out.

Any thoughts?
