Five years ago, my O-320-E3D in my '71 140 was clean, re. the AD 98-02-08, crankshaft pitting.

This time, however, the IA found some pitting. So we're going to do the SB505B Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection. But I've a question: Given the AD says do the FPI per the SB, and the SB calls for a black light whose output power is 1200mW/cm^2 at the bore surface, with white light background being no more than 20lx/m^2, as measured by a light meter, how many IA's have a light meter or, for that matter, have a black light certified to have the output called for in the SB?!

So, with those questions in mind, what have you who have had to resort to the FPI section of AD 98-02-08, done? Bought the Magnaflux kit that's $950.00 or so?
