I am a student pilot and I just purchased a 1976 Pathfinder 235 with a constant speed prop. I picked it up with my instructor the other day to fly it home. We took off with the prop setting full forward and the rpms never touched 2500. They were always between 2400 and 2500. The plane seemed to climb VERY well and seemed to have all the power in the world compared to the PA-28-180 I am used to.

My question is... Is this normal? My instructor said that most constant speed props will redline at some point but mine never did. It never even got to 2500. I have a buddy with a Bonanza and his does redline at some parts of the takeoff and climb process. It is, of course, adjusted down for cruise and not held at readline.

Thanks for any help that can be given. :)
