Alternator? Regulator? Master Switch?

Before I go pulling things tomorrow, I'd like to know if someone has had a similar issue.

1972 pa28-140/150.

My partner just landed. Said the ammeter was jumping up and down. Lights flickering in succession with the apparent voltage 12-14 swap. Alternator CB was not popped. Resetting the master switch yielded no change. No other symptoms noted.
