I have a 67 Cherokee with a cat whisker VOR antenna. My local A&P dabbles in avionics but is far from a avionics shop and none of the local shops are available. I took a look at the balum and it looked kind of rough. Some corrosion and I'm not sure it was properly grounded. Both NAV radios have been checked out (mailed to an AV shop) and found to be working. That kind of leaves antenna wiring and antenna. There's probably a NAV diplexer somewhere but I haven't found it.

With no avionics shops available locally for months, I'm left with trying to guide an A&P through some basic steps.

Would someone with more experience than me look at this old home made balum and let me know if it looks like it would be worth ordering a replacement and seeing if my local A&P would be willing to install it?

It looks pretty rough to me.

Thoughts?
