Well, Happy Turkey to all my American friends, but as we had our bird last month up here, it is to work!
It is in fact well underway, work coinciding with the annual ...
We got a great quote from our local shop (Tom's Upholstery), together with a deal on the leather. A Regional was going to refit a couple of their planes, but the deal fell through, so the inventory leather was available for a song to our local shop. So, pulled the trigger. Out went the interior the day the annual started, last Monday, only a few stray pieces remaining in this shot.
We are replacing the sideboard backing, and reupholstering in medium grey leather with a light grey highlight trim. The seats will be two-tone grey leather, with DAKOTA stitched in the back. The framing is cleaned, primed and repainted a lighter color.
All the plastic trim pieces, incl. the hat rack assembly, will be replaced/repaired, and redyed to match. A beautiful stretchy, leatherette finish headliner is being put in. Finally new carpeting to match.
Also will be putting in a cargo netting in the back, with a variety of attachment points to easily secure loads.
At the same time installing a permanent O2 tank behind the hat rack in the tail cone, and plumbing for outlets in the overhead vent channel.
Not much to show yet, but here are a few pics.
The rear seat area sideboard piece, on the co-pilot's side.
The pilot's sideboard. The elbow rest will be refinished, just a placeholder in the picture. The carpet piece and leather stitched together, the pocket just laid in place. The chalking on the front of it, depicts the smaller outer pockets.
These two pockets (pilot's & co-pilot's sides) will be "doubled", with an inner map+ sized pocket, and an outer, half height set of pockets for a flashlight, pens & cellphone. The lower outer pocket appears longer, simply because it will need to be bunched up to achieve the demising for the pockets. A similar assembly will make the seatback pockets more functional.
That's all for now. The only really big question, is how I'm going to be able to work in that original, classic red velor, as a nice accent highlighting - NOT!
