And one panel completed.
Used the old ones as a pattern for the new backing. Got those cut, and leather cut, fitted, and tacked together. took the material to the shoe shop to get the long seams sewn. I hand stitched the short seam, and kept that piece here. Went ahead and covered that panel. I kept a close eye on the weight of the new panels, and this particular one came out 1 oz heavier than the old. 1 oz on each panel is about 5 oz total. But I think I can trim that weight some. If I left off the map pocket, it would be about 3 oz lighter. ;)
I went with leather for 2 reasons, #1 it smells good, and #2 it was less expensive that equal square footage of artificial.
