After much debate, research, & consideration I ordered a Garmin 696. Yes, I read all about the i-pad, foreflight, & the 496, among others. I have been getting by with a Garmin GPS III, 1990's vintage. It's was O.K., but I am really looking fwd to the increased capability. After I get to know it some I plan to get the XM weather features, 'pilot lite' plan. For right now the Warrior is VFR only but that may change too down the road. I was going to wait to see what's up at OSH this year, but that's a ways off. I was looking at a few used options, & a few new from a vendor on ebay, he was in Singapore. I thought I'd play it safe & pay retail from Aircraft Spruce.

The 496 would be fine, but the price was close enough to just jump to the 696. Since I have some panel room & an obsolete Loran I may look into that 'panel dock'.
