I have put my Warrior II into a very popular flying club which requires the plane to be re-keyed to work with the key distributed to club members. After doing this I find that more than half the club keys I've tried can be removed from the forty-plus year old Bendix ignition switch in any of the 'run' positions. That's no bueno! It seemed to be those keys that were a little worn were the ones most easily removed. At first it would seem the best solution would be to replace the defective keys with fresh ones, but with over 2000 active members in the club that's a lot of keys and the logistics of it would be a nightmare.
So, I have two options: buy a new Bendix switch for nearly five hundred dollars and hope (no guarantee, of course) that it solves the problem, or install Electroair's ignition switch panel that has separate switches for the left and right mags. This would definitely eliminate the issue and do so for about half the price.
Have any of you installed one of these? If so, any issues? Any other insight is appreciated.
Thanks.
