I have a Arrow IV and my right magneto is dead. I had planned on changing to SureFly next year, but since now the plane is down I figure this is the time, rather then overhauling both magnetos.

A mechanic looked at the aircraft and says I have the "weird" magnetos that are unsupported and costly to overhaul. He suggests sending them to a shop, getting a quote on overhaul, and if it is too expensive change to one new Slick magneto and one SureFly. Can I just change the type of mags on the plane?

What kind of mags are these, and are they expensive to overhaul?
