So I’m in the process of purchasing a Cherokee 180C with the shotgun panel and had a couple questions. From my understanding the panel itself is considered a structural piece of the aircraft and therefore can’t be modified without appropriate logbook entries and faa paperwork(337?). My question is have any of y’all rearranged things in the shotgun panel to make it more user friendly and if so, I’d love to see pictures
Also, the control yokes are the butterflies and the shafts are 3/4”. If one were to scour swap meets, the mighty interweb, etc what all is involved in changing to the rams horn? I know there are pma units from avion but I’m a CB and would like to keep costs down of course. It’s my understanding that the u-joint for the 1-1/8” shaft will slide directly onto the control T chain drive gears. Is the bushing in the console the only thing left to change? If one were to find another set of control wheels that had a 3/4” diameter shaft would it be acceptable to use them?
