Yoke Replacement - 1963 Cherokee 235?

I'm curious if anyone has done a yoke replacement on a 63 (pre-67 or 68 when they changed to the standard style)?

I recently bought into this plane and I absolutely love it. However, when I'm in a comfortable seating position I really have next to no circular movement of the yoke...my hand, as you can see in the pic, rests on my leg and when I need to turn more than the very little unimpeded movement I find myself smashing the yoke into my leg or squirming around trying to get out of the way. I figured maybe I could just try with my seat back further but I'm afraid I'd have to get it so far back that it would be even more uncomfortable keeping a hand on the yoke and I'd be reaching to max for a full push on the rudder pedals.

Would a normal or standard style "W" yoke fix anything? Are they as wide as the one's in this model year? It almost feels like a design flaw and looks like in later years they obviously changed the yoke style but possibly moved the yoke up a bit so that it's not in your lap with the seat pushed up.

Any ideas?
