My plane has been down since last year, on a cascade of maintenance events started by a cracked / detonated cylinder in-flight, and ending in complete engine overhaul and massive upgrade cycle. The engine itself took around 5 months (at a leisurely pace), but the upgrade cycle has taken on a life of its own.
When you go poking around in your plane, it’s best if you don’t know what you’re looking at and don’t know how it’s supposed to be. This way, you won’t end up spending years of your life correcting and improving on things
One day earlier this year, I was under the passenger-side panel, looking at some wiring. As it usual for an older plane, I encountered a rats nest of mixed breakers, hacked bus bar, factory and later-replaced wiring, and a heavily re-labeled breaker panel (with some breakers that didn’t do -anything-).
For those who care about details:
Panel label overlay : Arrow Graphics
Wiring: M22759 (Tefzel)
Bus bar: MS25226
Terminals: PIDG #6
Labels: Heat shrink tubing
Here’s a bit of a before and after:
