As I made in a recent posts in the past couple of weeks, I've had a lot of work done on my '74 Arrow (non-turbo). I received my invoice for the annual plus additional work done. I called the shop overhauling my accessories to find out how much they charged the mechanic. For my magnetos, the shop charged the mechanic $824. I saw a place online that charged roughly $750-$800 so they are not out of line. However, my mechanic charged me $1,322, PLUS labor for removal and installation!!!!
Furthermore, I had my electric fuel pump overhauled and my distributor valve overhauled. The shop doing the work charged my mechanic $807 for both. I was billed by my mechanic $992 for those, which I guess is "reasonable" relatively speaking.
I get that a shop needs to make money and I expect a reasonable markup. However I feel that I had unjustly been ripped off. Are there any mechanics on here that can validate that this is normal practice? If this is normal, the 60% markup on my magnetos, then I guess I have nothing to complain about since any other shop would have done the same.
