I have a 1982 PA32-301T with the infamous "fish mouth" air inlet at the front. We've been fighting slightly high oil temps for some time now - replaced the oil cooler and vernatherm with no luck. As I peered into the mouth of our plane, I noticed a machined hole - maybe 2" in diameter, on the lower -left-side of the firewall (co-pilot side). Its a straight path for precious cooling air to run right out the bottom of the plane, rather than into the engine, oil cooler, etc.

It also appears that there was once a plug there, and it has fallen off or been removed! Does any one have any idea why there is a machined hole right there? I can peer through the air inlet of the plane, and see daylight directly through this hole.

Anyone have any fish mouth PA32's with a plug on the left side (your left when you're facing the aircraft i.e. the co-pilot side?)
