When I first flew my new (to me) Cherokee, I found that the trim was not working. It was trimed to a nose up position, and I had to keep pressure on the yoke at all times. I cranked the trim control for all I was worth to no avail.
Today, I found the trouble. And repaired it. It was a very time consuming and complicated repair. Involving about 45 min. of time, and some mineral spirits. Then the application of a finger full of grease.
The grease on the jack shaft had turned hard, and collected all manner of dirt. Causing the drum to not turn. With a thorough cleaning, and a dab of "33" grease, it works slick as a button.
