1973 PA28-140. I've been flying a LOT of practice and my stabilator has gone from minimal to almost 1/4" of play at the tips. I'm thinking it's time to replace stab bearings. Are there any service bulletins or service letters about this that I need to get my hands on? I have reviewed the 2017 Piper SB/SL list and I'm not seeing any other than inspection notes and the trim barrel issue.

Does anyone know how the bearings are constructed? According to my Parts Catalogue they are 05-07352 BEARING,STABILATOR 452-394. They appear to be some sort of roller bearing according to the pic, or at least have an inner and outer race. My mechanic seems to think they should be a solid bronze or brass bushing and that we will have to ream it to fit the bolt. Did Piper switch bearing styles at some point?

Also, will the new bearings need reaming? Lastly, what bolts should I have? The PC and MX manuals note two possible types, a AN174013A, OR a NAS 1104-17. Torque values depend on which bolts you have. My mechanic says the NAS 1104-17 is a "close tolerance" bolt.

Thanks for any insight. This should be an interesting job. I promised my mechanic that I would get all the required info, any service bulletins, and required parts together before he comes out to work with me on it.
