So, being a slow learner, we are buying another airplane. SMH

Found a 76 Warrior I with high compression cylinders wasting away in the semi high desert climate at KRAL on a swing out there. You know the one, sitting on three rims, covered in dust and grime. Had a sad moment because the Warrior was always good to me. Hate seeing them die an undignified death.

Fast forward two months and a friend saw two guys putting tires on it to move it for a re slurry project. Names and numbers exchanged, I got in touch with him. TTAF 2475. SMOH 340. YOUNG!!! Owner lost his medical 9 years ago, will never get it back (didn’t ask, HIPPA and all). Got keys and logs sent to my IA, found history was spotless. When airplane was parked, he pulled the radios, pulled the battery, put the shades in, had the cylinders fogged, and simply walked away.

Popped for an oil and filter change, new battery (can always take it out of deal doesn’t happen), new plugs. Primer needed a new seal kit, but my IA inspected, sprayed with Marvel, a shot of go fast in a can (starter fluid) and she lives!!!! Ran for an hour, pulled compressions, all in low 70s.

Got the radios from owner, dropped them in, all test operational. (Anyone have a sailboat that needs a LORAN? PM me lol). The number was de registered, so I reserved it, now am involved in the chicken or the egg exercise with the FSDO. How do I transfer a deregistered registration with bill of sale? But I can’t register an aircraft that I don’t own. This ought to be fun.

Settled on the uAvionics Tail Beacon for solution. Sourced a couple KX-170Bs to drop in to replace the Narcos. Txpdr might need replacing too, will find out when getting it tested.

The purchase price was ridiculously low, and even with all the upgrades, still coming out with a sizable chunk of equity According to Vref.

Will try to keep you guys updated on the process as we get closer to investing real money into her.

For all you guys that have an early Warrior, any ideas or tips going forward? Getting her airworthy and across the country to CHI is the first goal. Then we address “wants” on the list ...
