The Chief Flight Instructor in Beverly Massachusetts was killed last week after exiting his plane with a student at the controls with the engine running to help another pilot in a Piper Sport to close a Canopy, a very tragic accident and makes you re-think some procedures if this can happen to the most experienced pilots and instructors. Very sad they didn't shut the engine down, I know my instructor used to hop out of the plane after dual instruction and walk to the FBO and even know he didn't cross path in the direction of the prop was probably a bad habit for anyone.
