Please be alert to the possibility of defective internal check valves on HYC-5005 model Piper power packs.

Symptoms include gear stuck in transit on the way up, and gear failing to stay up.

This check valve holds the gear up when retracted. I have seen several fail in the last two years, all on recently overhauled power packs. People have spent ridiculous money chasing gear problems, when all along it was the overhauled power pack CAUSING the problems.

If you have a problem, please contact the overhaul shop first, and fill out an FAA Malfunction and Defect report so this can get corrected.
