So I'm getting closer to soloing. We went up to do pattern work today in the face of an incoming storm. Runway 21 was it, winds from 180 then 170 at 8-10 and gusting to 18 I think. Winds aloft at 3000ft was showing 35kts from 200. A couple of mild cells popped up while we were flying, one north and east of us and one to the south and west at about 10 miles. We could see the downdrafts kicking up wide areas of dust/haze. The one to the north was giving us some wind shear on approach. It was an interesting day to fly!

I was probably more nervous than I needed to be, it was the roughest pattern flying I've done yet by a long shot. I'm going to review my AFM and then review it with the instructor when we fly next. What approach speeds and power settings are you flying in 140, particularly in crosswind and shifty winds?
