I chatted with Mike Busch about flying LOP at the AOPA Sante Fe flyin. Rather than using the LOP procedure of engine monitors like the JPI (I have the 830), he recommends rapidly pulling the mixture until the engine just starts to sag and then bring her back up to a desired GPH / power level. That’s what I do and it’s a lot easier than fooling with the buttons and staring at the engine monitor trying to set LOP. You can then periodically monitor CHT’s to make sure nothing is out of whack.
