I'm nearing the end of my ppl training. Got a 98 Archer 3 a few weeks ago. Lately, I've been flying in the early morning, then again in the late afternoon. (Sometimes with a lesson squeezed in at noon.) In the morning, winds are calm, in the afternoon, they are usually 11-12 kts, gusting to 18, and varying from 280 to 320 (Using runway 30). I noticed that in the morning, my landings were spot on, right down the numbers, gentle touchdowns. In the afternoon, more often than not, I was porpoising. (I've gotten REALLY good at powering up and going around!) My CFI was going to do a ride with me today to help me figure it out, but got hung up at another airport. I won't see him again until Monday, but I plan on flying all weekend. So I went back up to hash the problem out on my own. What I found was that if I came in (by the numbers) but only used 25 degrees of flaps instead of 40, no porpoising... nice and smooth. Is this because the combination of strong headwinds and full flaps is just too much dang lift or what?

Any and all comments/criticisms are most appreciated.

Ryk
