Got my first ice'ing today in the Aztec... a 3 hour flight from Michigan to West Virginia. See attached picture.

Anyways, wanted to know how to judge it. It appeared to be just trace and only building up on the foam spacer corner of the hot plate.

Nothing on the stem of the thermometer, which was a good indication on my PA32. I didn't seem to see any on the wing leading edge, maybe a little crust but was hard to tell. I was cycling my boots as I didn't want to experiment with seeing it build up.

Anyways, what I am asking is where one generally see's icing first building on the Aztec. As I indicated, the stem of the thermometer was a good first spot on my PA32 and I expected the same here, but it wasn't the case (and it could have been because there is some stagnant air around that part of the hot plate). I did confirm the hotplate, pitot and hot prop worked before departing.
