I was flying with a friend the other day with IFD540 and there was an option to enter a "visual approach" for a runway under the PROC menu. I didn't recall that on my 440. It's pretty cool. Sure, I can enter a vectored approached into the unit, but it still considers it an approach, with fix sequencing, missed approach, etc. The "visual approach" option looked to be a straight forward extended centerline with CDI indications (GS too). I assume this feature came with a more recent firmware? Could be pretty handy when just tooling around VMC.

What is the best way to get the firmware update? I assume I need a logbook entry from an IA?
