My partner and I have now owned our 1977 Archer II for several months as we both continue taking flying lessons.

Yesterday he sent me the attached picture of the fuel sample he took at the engine sump (gascolator?) during pre-flight. He sampled the fuel in the wing tanks and those samples were normal 100LL color. Guy in the next hangar said to just drain until the fuel ran clear - which we did. Neither of us flew it that day.

Today I went down to the hangar and sampled the fuel and it is exactly the same dark color - no particles but just the wrong color. Our A&P came out and was a little stumped and suggested just draining it till clear then flying it.

Anyone have any ideas about why the fuel is discolored? It never looked that way before.
