The photo shows it all. Airport is unlikely to do anything about it since they just replaced the doors. Unfortunately there is now a huge gap. Enough for me to slip through (turning sideways).

Thoughts on the best way to secure this and keep out the elements?

The post has to be removed everytime I take the plane in and out (its a bit of a pita but the hangar is larger than the average one as a result).
