Hi everyone... one of our club members says he was told by an A&P/IA that when the external plug is used, a solenoid will sense power and flip so that only the starter circuit is energized, and the rest of the plane gets no external power. '84 PA28-181. True? We're just looking for ways to do some hangar flying training on the new avionics as well as provide power for database updates, etc. Next option would be to install a trickle charger pigtail in the baggage compartment so that we can more easily attach a charger after running the battery down a bit while updating.
