Hello all

I have a 1967 180D. 75/80 all cylinders. Low oil usages. Overall, the engine is in good shape and it runs very smoothly.

I have never actually tested the fuel burn rate. I have just been using the book number of 10 GPH leaned out at 7000 feet.

I returned from a 4 hour round trip, paying careful attention to starting fuel amounts, leaning, rpm etc.

I used 52 gallons in that four hours. Some of that was taxiing run up.etc. So, maybe 48 gallons total.

But that works out to 12 GPH.

I did not believe my fuel gauges. I ran the right side down to pegged on zero and switched tanks when I felt I was about to be dry based on flight time.

Per my flight time calculations, I should have had 5 gallons left in that tank, but I only had 2.2.

So, I am mystified.

What am I missing here ?

thanks,

Scott
