ForeFlight released version 5.0 today and it has some pretty cool features. The first is extended runway centerlines shown on the map for the airports in the flight plan. They have also added a pattern entry tool in the procedures button on the map. You can select the runway you plan to use and it will show you options such as 45 deg entry, straight in, midfield direct or midfield teardrop. It labels one as the best option based on proximity to your flight path. Once you select one it adds it to the map so you can visualize it or just follow the magenta line. I can see this as very helpful when arriving at an unfamiliar airport, especially at night.
They also added a feature that switches to the airport diagram automatically during the landing roll. This is only for Pro subscribers. They also added a high res terrain map and a hazard advisor. It colors terrain/ obstacles within 1000' of your GPS altitude yellow and anything within 100' as red. I haven't flown with it yet but they say it automatically adds obstacle alerts as you get close to them. You can set the Hazard Advisor to different speeds so it wont alert on everything as you taxi around the airport.
The new update works on iPad 2 and iPhone 4 and up so anyone still using older hardware won't be able to take advantage of this. I know some folks have been on the fence between ForeFlight and Garmin Pilot. It seems like this update might make the decision a little easier. JMHO!
