So we went to pick up a spare battery that I had cycled and charged at my IA's shop and there was another Arrow in the stall going through annual. It looked pretty nice but it appears beauty is only skin deep. He noticed some paint cracks around the rivets over the spar with some obvious seemingly minor smoking. Turns out there is internal crack damage under the skin from a hard landing.

The moral of the story is to be mindful of the little things. A strut does not have to poke through the top skin of the wing to signify serious damage from a hard landing.
