I have a '68 PA28-180. It has the old Volkswagen style metal rotating handle to open the door.

Is there a way to replace the entire thing with the more modern black lever that moves up/down at the front of the door?

Would it work to just replace the whole door with a salvage one off something newer with the modern latch? Not sure they are even the same size door.

This is a rental plane and people keep closing the door by pulling on the metal lever. The lever is $70 and the great mechanism behind it is $420. It is too fragile to deal with for renters I guess.
