I have an original com antenna on my plane, 1974 Warrior. I was in the shop today having them look over a radio issue. I think I am on the right track with that. He added that I may want to replace my original com antenna with a new Comant antenna,(CI-121 I think?).

I plan to go back in 2 weeks or so & will let him know as I set up an appointment. He said he sees 'issues' with new radios & the older antennas. I have a Garmin SL-30 Nav/Com.

The problem that brought me to the shop was a com squeal, which was diagnosed as a problem with the radio, it's on the way back to Garmin under warranty.

Is there a halfway good reason to spend $200 + install on a new Com antenna? Right now I am about split, the radio was fine before the internal failure(modulation issue?) that brought on the squeal. Would a new antenna be better than the old one? Thanks.
