I saw an announcement that the FAA is considering extending AD 71-21-08 to an earlier range of Cherokee serial numbers that includes my plane. The issue seems to be a fuel valve that is difficult to turn. It seems to require changing the valve cover to Piper P/N 760-546V. Since the original problem was covered only by a SB and the AD didn't make changing it manditory for my S/N, I doubt if my valve cover complies. It looks like Piper is charging $645 for the cover, which seems high for a small piece of plastic. Can anyone post a picture of the conforming cover? Is there an alternate source? AMOC?
