In the past 15 years, I haven't talked with my mechanics about the fact that I fly my Warrior II LOP-WOT (and without an engine monitor or CHT gauge to boot), because the heads of the shop were always older guys who I'd heard ranting about pilots "flying too lean." Instead, I just asked them detailed questions about the state of my cylinders, valves, plugs, etc., and every annual, and they always commented on how good they looked—no sign of excessively-high temperatures and minimal lead deposits.

Time and retirement have taken their course, and now the head of my shop is a few years younger than I am. So I fessed up and told him how I fly, and why I hadn't mentioned it in the past. His answer was "of course! why wouldn't you fly LOP?"
