I had planned solo then late in the game the older Son wanted to join me. Instead of flying around I went right across Lake Mich. I was at 11,500' & the weather was great. I did have 2 life preservers but the water temp was 47 or so. I had flight following the whole way but there is about 25 miles in the middle where gliding to shore isn't an option. I'm not advocating, & with warmer water it may be an O.K. option.

Pictures are out of order, 1 Garmin 696, 2 MI shoreline, 3 Milwaukee shoreline.
