Losing the elevator control of an aircraft in flight is a serious situation. In this case a failure in the control system where the left side of the horizontal stabilizer became disconnected with the elevator. Any movement of the yoke caused the aircraft to oscillate uncontrollably......The aircraft was at 4500' feet and the airport was 7 miles away!

How would you as a pilot handle this situation. The accident aircraft had a 9000 foot long runway 2 miles behind it.

It was a very long 7 miles flying this crippled aircraft. How could something like this happen? What could I as the PIC do differently to have prevented this near fatal accident?.....could it happen again! In my opinion Yes! and I have asked the FAA and the NTSB to issue an emergency AD to p.revent this from happening again. 18 months later I am still waiting.

The incident was actually recorded by another aircraft flying over head. See Report
