I've been cutting the heck outta my hands/arms on jagged fiberglass in the inside of my cowling, and my A&P mentioned that he could sand the sharp spots and paint the inside with a white epoxy paint - as it would help with cleanup, and spotting of oil leaks.

I'm ok with doing this, but what should I use to de-grease the inside of the cowl? It's fairly rough fabric and there is a bunch of embedded oil/grease/other unknown stains. I figure if it's not cleaned with some sort of detergent, the paint won't adhere, but I don't want to weaken the fiberglass bond or introduce something that will hasten failure.
