Is there an inherent problem with having constant preheat applied to the engine? Would it technically hurt anything to leave something on full time?

Currently, I do not have a commercial preheat or plan to have one in the very near future. What I do use is a clamp-on trouble light and a heater lamp bulb (ok, so I'm somewhat of a tightwad still). I'm not after the pro's-con's of my method vs your method or commercial heater vs. homegrown. If you want to provide that, so be it. *wink*

I am only asking out of curiosity.
