I’m looking for advice/opinions on my Autopilot. I have a PA32-300 with an Aspen Pro PFD coupled to a Garmin 430WAAS the original Autocontrol IIIB and an S-Tec 30Alt.

The Autocontrol IIIB has decided to go part time. It tests on the ground. In flight, the A/P at times works perfect tracking either Heading or GPS other times it doesn’t work.

I’m hesitant spending any money on the A/P since it’s so old. I’m looking for other owner’s experience with trouble shooting/repairing the unit?

Next I would also like to hear recommendation’s for a new A/P. The issue here is the Aspen Pro PFD has been surpassed by the Aspen MAX and I’m a bit worried about spending $15K (parts and labour) on a PFD that is out of production to either round out my S-Tec 30 (again another older piece of equipment) or wait for the Trio to be certified for a PA32.

Right now I’m leaning towards replacing my system with dual G5’s and the GFC500. It’s quiet a bit more expensive (almost twice as expensive), but is an integrated system and is the latest and greatest.
