In this last 6 months I been flying a lot to Flabob in Riverside to visit my daughter about 110 miles from San Diego.

Now this an aiport that has a small mountain very close to the downwind leg and the turn to base are extemely tight. I have to use al lot of rudder and bank to get the plane to turn base and then line up with the runway. Not a particular issue for me but it scares my passengers. Flying a turbo arrow does not help either, speed is up there.

So my question is, can I fly around the mountain instead??? Obviously I have to observe other traffic in the pattern but can I legally do it?
