I hate to buy a new one if someone has a good used one laying around this is an extra they would like to sell. I have a non-WAAS 430 in the Archer I just purchased and it did not come with the reader.

Thanks

My computer has built in slots for the different sized cards. I just use that. If yours doesn't have them, go to Best Buy or one of the other computer stores and pick one up. There's nothing special about the Jeppesen reader. Just bring your card with you to be sure of which size card reader you pick up.

Garmin 430 memory chips are proprietary, and no computer store will have a reader.

I beg to differ, per my Garmin training they use stock SD Cards, SanDisk brand for GNS 430 & 530 series, GTN 650 & 750 series and the G500, G600, G1000 series and up. The instructor used his laptop to write to the SD cards for our training class, so I know it works.

No. There are no "SD" cards in a 430.

These are the proprietary cards in a Garmin 430, 430W 530, 530W

This is a "SD" card.

It's a compact flash card, not SD card.

Compact flash in the left.......Garmin 430W in the middle middle......SD on the right.

I did have a UPS CNX80 in my Cessna 185. I believe it did have a Compact Flash memory card. Alas, Garmin squashed all those plans, and as yet, have failed to make a better GPS.

I was in the same situation last year but Jim Ruhnke send me his USB programmer for free when he upgraded to IFD I believe. Thanks again to him I use it every month.
