Hypothetically speaking, I see a Cherokee advertised online about 282 nm away. Nothing untoward about the ad, and it's inexpensive: $20,000 on ~1700 SMOH. Suppose we enter an agreement with the seller, subject to prepurchase inspection. Is it feasible for me to fly out with a local A&P who I know, poke around the airplane a bit to see if corrosion is present, examine the logbooks, and call it good?

This is not something I would do it I were buying a Bonanza, but what has I got to lose here?
