'74 PA28R door fit - top edge

Flew in the right seat recently and I was totally amazed at the amount of air noise - the top of the door is ~1/4" higher than the top of the cabin, so there is open space all along that edge; it seems like the curve of the door top has actually changed, increasing the radius and leaving the gap, but the other door edges fit fine..

Found notes about corners not fitting, but none dealing with the top edge.

Anyone ever ran into and, hopefully, dealt with this sort of problem?
