wing walk compound

I have this one little worn spot on my wing walk area that I have some Randolph wing walk compound on order for. Can this be used like a "touch-up" paint, or is it the kind of thing where you really have to do a large area to make it look and work ok? This little worn spot is down to the metal, too, would I have to prime it? Not sure what happened there that it was let go that long.......
