When a piston pin goes for a walk-about

Like my wife re-arranging the furniture, I guess this pin just got tired of being in one place...

For those that haven’t seen the inerds of your engines, that thin shiny ring on the end of the pin should be about 1/2” thick. The pile on top was what was in the suction screen.

Any clue why they don’t use piston pin retaining clips like other engines?
