Upgrade Fuel Selector

I have read that later model (later than 1963) PA-28's have a spring loaded Fuel Selector. The one major thing I don't like about my plane is the fuel selector switch. The detent is there but makes me nervous. Is there a legal way to upgrade the fuel selector so something a little more fool proof?
